Breathing Through: Yoga for Anxiety

Heightened energy, or stress, is something that we all encounter, at least at some point within our life.  However, when the nervous system becomes overwhelmed and stays in the place of anxiety, the outcomes are a scattered mind, chronic pain, digestive disturbances and more.  When this occurs, we must take the time to remind our body to remain in the parasympathetic nervous system; the system that revitalizes, restores and returns the body back to proper energetic homeostasis, or simply harmony.  By learning a variety of yogic mindfulness, movement and breathing techniques, we can offer our nervous system a fresh start towards a mind and body that promote focus, ease and peace. No prior experience is needed for this workshop.

BEGINNERS YOGA WORKSHOP SERIES

This workshop series is ideal for everyone - those interested in yoga, but haven’t yet made it to the mat, yogis who want to take their practice beyond the physical, and yoga teachers interested in teaching the basics and foundations of yoga. This series consists of four 90 min workshops, each focusing on a bedrock practice of yoga — Asana, Pranayama, Meditation & Bhakti. Students will leave with a complete understanding of what yoga actually is and will feel confident entering a class at any level. Teachers will leave feeling inspired to add depth and substance to even the most basic of classes.

HEAL YOUR HIPS & LOWER BACK

Lower back and hip pain are extremely common in our busy lives. Daily life, hectic schedules and sitting for long periods puts tremendous strain on our bodies and can leave us feeling stressed and tense.  This 2 hour vinyasa (flow) yoga class, is ideal for all levels, and will offer a deep opening for the muscles around the hips, lower back and legs in efforts to alleviate pain and stiffness in these spaces.  Our pace will begin softly with mindful breath work and restorative yoga postures, then slowly develop to a vinyasa flow targeting these commonly tense areas of the body.  Flexibility in the legs and hips is a matter of muscle balance rather than simply stretching, so this practice will also include postures that strengthen the muscle groups, which encourage healing for the hips and lower back.  The synergy of movement and breath will encourage a softening of targeted muscles and joints, allowing the body the freedom to release holding patterns of tension.  Our practice will culminate with an extended, restorative savasana with an essential oil massage that will calm and quiet the mind, while leaving your body feeling deliciously open.
